Straw fibers hold promise for use in clothing.
Business News Agency, August 23: At a recent high-level forum on climate change and low-carbon textiles, several experts suggested that, with the development of new technologies, we may be able to wear low-carbon clothing made from fibers derived from straw and other plant materials within the next five years. Against the backdrop of climate change, processing textiles using fibers extracted from biological waste not only conserves energy but also significantly reduces carbon dioxide emissions. According to one expert at the forum, producing an ordinary large-sized men’s white T-shirt via conventional methods generates 6.5 kilograms of CO₂; in contrast, if biomass-based raw materials are used, CO₂ emissions would drop to just one‑sixth of the original level.
